NEIL PEART: 'Fire On Ice, Making Of The Hockey Theme' Available On DVD

October 21, 2010

Back in February, the Canadian English-language sports TV channel The Sports Network (commonly abbrieviated as TSN) introduced RUSH drummer Neil Peart's "drum-centric" version of the iconic "The Hockey Theme" during a Toronto Maple Leafs game. The St. Catharines-born percussionist worked with Grammy Award-winning producer Nick Raskulinecz to create his interpretation of the theme which was recorded at Ocean Way Studios in Hollywood, California on December 7, 2009.

The Drum Channel in March released a nine-minute "Making Of The Hockey Theme" video and announced that a full-length DVD featuring behind-the-scenes footage from the creation of the song would be made available at a later date. As promised, the Drum Channel has now produced a 90-minute making-of DVD titled "Neil Peart: Fire On Ice, Making Of The Hockey Theme" which can be purchased via Amazon.com.

A product description reads as follows: "Neil Peart gives a behind the scenes tour of the making of 'The Hockey Theme'. Canada's TSN decided to recreate the hockey theme; they wanted to use iconic Canadians to help in the revisal. 'The Hockey Theme' is recognized as Canada's second national anthem so when they decided to recreate it, they wanted to use the best, and the first person that came to mind was RUSH drummer Neil Peart. Neil also discusses a custom drum kit made by DW drums with all of the different hockey team logos on it."
